google mail. IT works great with IE and Firefox :(

I can't see Opera supporting activeX. Google is making some noises
about supporting safari on the mac - perhaps being friendly towards
opera will come from this, but again I haven't got my hopes up.

FWIW there are some nice `desktop style' operations in gmail that I
haven't seen in other webmail clients. These are no doubt activeX
features... I can see it being very popular.

I don't think so. The interfaces are very similar (the same as far as I've
experienced) on Firefox and IE so most of their cool foo must be done with
some vaguely standard DOM stuff.

I don't see anything suggesting that the ActiveX usage extends past data
exchange with XMLHTTP.
Mozilla does that natively, as does Safari 1.2 I believe.
