Any experience with Verizon DSL e-mail accout set-up?

This is my first post and I am looking for help in setting up an Opera
e-mail account. I have Verison DSL. Currently I am using OE, which is
off-line, and worked fine. All the information has been entered into the
Opera account set-up and was straight forward except for the authorization,
which Verizon requires, so I tried all the settings available. I can
receive messages but cannot send. Verizon tech support doesn't support
Opera (8.0) so they are useless. Any help?
