I am wanting to prevent Opera from creating a history and drop-down list of
the URL's that I type into the Address Bar.
I have attempted to change this setting in Preference Editor at
opera:config#Auto%20Dropdown without success.
When I use Clear at "visited addresses for history and autocompletion" this
drop-down list of "recently typed addresses" is cleared but so is the
history list of recently visited websites.
Sincerely,
Richard

Who is "we"? It doesn't include me for sure.
And what's the problem with that? Why do you want a free look to the
page while typing an address?

I've been looking for this feature to a LONG time!
I don't know if this fixes your prob but for me, it's great.
Thanks for the suggestion, a sufficient work-around to my difficulties with
this "typed URL history" list.
I tried your method and it works as you describe except that I need to
select and highlight the offending URL by right-clicking and then Shift +
Del. Left-clicking to select does nothing except reopen the webpage at that
URL.
Of course, as we all know, if we open a New Private Tab and type our URL
addresses into that, this history issue is a non-issue.
Thanks to everyone else for replying as well, all is much appreciated.

Instead of left clicking to select, there should be an X at the right when
you hover a line. It deletes ;)
Or navigate with the arrow keys and use shift + del.

I see the little X way over on the right-hand side of the line that is
"highlighted" when you select a particular URL to delete. And it works as
you describe.
I guess we sometimes can not see the forest because the trees are getting in
the way. Like here in coastal British Columbia, you can not see the
marvelous scenic views because the mountains get in the way of it eh!
Thanks for the tip
