Installed o90w_8367.exe and it modified this registry key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet]

and replaced IE and Outlook Express in the startmenu.

Made itself the default mail and browser on the system.

I had selected for it not to install any shortcuts.

Uninstalled Opera and the problem was compounded now there

is no default browser and mail program.

The changes are done on firstrun NOT by the installer.

Then on the second run it asks if you want it to be the default

browser but the change has allready been made.

Bad behaviour in my opinion.

I've noticed that when I install a new beta of Opera at work, the next
time I start Outlook (which we're forced to use, I'm sorry to say) it
always complains that another application has made itself the default
handler for mail and would I like to make Outlook the default.

At home, where Agent is my default mail application, I never see this.
I don't know whether that's because Agent actually respects the "don't
check every time" option and Outlook doesn't, or because Opera behaves
differently at home.

@news.opera.com:

Just tried Beta1 release still making unrequested changes to the
operating system...

Still not undone when uninstalled...

Hope this is fixed before final release.

I noticed that one time after installing an earlier beta version that Opera replaced my Internet link in the start menu. I changed it back (work machine), but haven't had it happen on subsequent beta installs, possibly because lately I haven't been uninstalling the previous build before installing the latest. Maybe the one time it happened, I had uninstalled previous versions beforehand; wish I remembered.
