I've tried to reply to the "Welcome to the OpenYou Mailing List!"
thread three times but it doesn't seem to be posted to the group/
mailinglist. I must be doing something wrong somewhere. =/

Hi
My name is Christoffer Holmstedt and I'm from Sweden in Northern
Europe. The upcoming spring will be my last semester before I finish
my Bachelor in Computer Science at Luleå University of Technology. I
exercise alot and bought a Garmin Forerunner 610 HRM last week, I've
uploaded my last week results to Garmin connect(through windows) and
I've already found it inadequate. Therefore I decided to try to get it
to work with Ubuntu as soon as possible, this is my first evening
trying to find what's available out there to give me a head
start(apparently not much). I've a first post on
https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?p=116845#post116845 to try to
get any tips on where to start.

My first goal is just to try to get the tcx and/or gpx file from my
watch to Ubuntu. Future project will be somekind of sports software
where I can track my results and analyze it with ease. When planning
for this I came across Openyou project which seems to be spot on.

I used gpsbabel with some older forerunners with some success. Worth looking into.

Hi Christoffer,

I'm using a pretty low-tech, but effective way to get the .TCX files back to my linux server for processing.  All you need to do is symlink (in Windows using junction) the Garmin Trainer directory to Dropbox for syncing.  I wrote up a post on this not too long ago:

http://eric-blue.com/2011/07/10/automatically-sync-import-garmin-tcx-data/

This obviously doesn't give you a 100% Linux solution, but does make data sync really easy.  I haven't dug in depth, but there's also an open source project called Garmin Tools that may be of interest (https://code.google.com/p/garmintools/).  The author wrote this to interface with his Forerunner 305 over USB.
