Hi,
I recently purchased an Omron r7 blood pressure monitor w/o USB cable
and I was wondering if it _has_ to have the overpriced cable to talk
to Linux or will the cheaper one work?

Thanks,
Steve

Assuming it's this:

Then any USB Mini cable will do, yes. That's just a regular USB A -> USB Mini cable.

I guess it's this one: http://www.medisave.co.uk/omron%C2%AE-usb-cable-for-705it-637it-iq142-and-r7-monitors-to-pc-p-4021.html

Any ideas what the difference is? (Apart from the price.) Does Omron use the same connectors over its product line? The USB socket on the R7 (if it is a standard USB socket) looks very small.

Thanks,
Steve

Just the price. That's still an A -> mini cable. That's standard USB mini, you'll see it on small media devices too.

Product Imageedges.

I have purchased an R7 omron wrist blood monitor but the mini usb cable as the picture above does not fit.  The connection port at the wrist end looks perfectly squared and doesnt have edges. Have you found a cheap alternative to omron usb cable guys?

That looks like standard B to mini B to me, the more common mini USB connection. Mini A is a miniaturized version of the square A connector most commonly used in USB printers.
