Hi all,

Does anyone know how GPS works within the openxdata platform?

Specifically - can a phone store the GPS co-ordinates in a form if there is no reception or airtime? Does the phone need to be GPS only (not A-GPS)?

Kind regards,

Oliver

Hi Oliver,

Openxdata GPS support relies on the JSR-179 standard for J2ME. If your particular phone supports JSR-179, our software doesn't care whether it is GPS or A-GPS. Normally, reception isn't required for GPS, but that may be device (phone) dependent.

I hope that helps,

Brent

Sorry, GPS reception *is* required... Normal phone tower reception or airtime usually isn't. However, you'll need airtime to upload.

Awesome, thanks Brent. Do you know if it is possible to capture the GPS coordinates and save the form, or do the GPS coordinates get added automatically when one uploads the form?

Kind regards,

The GPS coordinates are captured as "questions". The designed forms need to include a question of type GPS and you can make them required or optional depending on your needs.
