The final presentation at the Net Sci X conference in Wroclaw was by Albert Laszlo Barabasi about control in networks and he talked about his new unpublished work on c elgans predictions made by his theory that have been tested by Petra Vertes at Cambridge.
There were two predictions, one that has been proven experimentally and the second has not because experimental methods are not yet fine enough.
In a nutshell the prediction that has been proven is that knocking out one neuron in a larvae will impact on movement but in an adult knocking out the same neuron will not.
The second prediction is about right hand v left hand neurons. The theory predicts that knocking out one will have an impact but not the other - Barabasi said it was not yet possible do this in a real worm.
Barabasi has published on network control in Science and has had one paper on c elegans in Science Communications (I think), and the paper with Vertes is currently being written up.
Will OpenWorm be able to be used for experiments on larvae versus adults, and left hand versus right hand neurons?
