Hi everyone,
we've been doing an insane amount of work in the last 12 months which has brought a lot of features and UX improvements.
These are not easily installable yet but we're working on it, there's also a number of bugs and blockers we have found while using and testing the new work.
Now that Google Summer of Code is over, we're addressing all the remaining issues with the goal of getting the new release out.
But this work needs a sprint in order to be speeded up, so for this reason, I am proud to announce our participation to the Hacktoberfest 2021!
Our experience last year had been positive, different contributors that had started contributing in Hacktoberfest 2020 then became Google Summer of Code students and some of them are continuing to contribute and one even became part of our core team (hopefully more will join!).
We are preparing the field for new contributors to join our community during Hacktoberfest, the goals for this year are mainly:
- Update all OpenWISP module to make them compatible with Django 3.2
- Update all dependencies
- Fix release blockers
- Train new contributors who can potentially become core contributors in the future
- Encourage users which are not contributing actively to get involved and help the community to grow
As usual, anyone is welcome to join us and contribute in any way they can (testing, provide feedback, coding), according to the available time and skills they have.
For users who are running OpenWISP for their services, we highly encourage to participate in the testing of the upcoming release, provide feedback and report bugs.
Best regards
Federico Capoano
