Hi team,

I would like to confirm a potential compatibility issue.

Currently, I am using Ubuntu 22.04 LTS with Python 3.10, and OpenWISP 2 is running successfully. I am planning to upgrade the operating system from Ubuntu 22.04 LTS to Ubuntu 24.03 LTS.

If I restore a snapshot taken from Ubuntu 22.04 LTS onto Ubuntu 24.03 LTS, will there be any issues when starting the OpenWISP 2 application? My concern is that Ubuntu 22.04 uses Python 3.10, and there are compiled binaries, systemd service instances, and a virtual environment based on that version.

Additionally, Ubuntu 24.03 LTS comes by default with Python 3.12 and PostgreSQL 16, and I would like to understand whether these version changes could impact the restored setup.

Could this cause compatibility problems after the upgrade? If so, what steps should I take to ensure that the snapshot works correctly on Ubuntu 24.03 LTS?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

logu

We've done a lot of these migrations, things can go wrong but if you have the backup and keep the old VM around you'll be fine and you'll figure it out, just make sure to run the playbook again once the new VM is ready.
