Hello everyone,

I am Amritanshu Jain, a sophomore currently studying at BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus. I wish to apply for GSoC under your organisation.  I have a programming experience of over six years in Python and JS, and have gained substantial command over Python libraries/frameworks such as Django, Scrapy, NumPy OpenCV. I have also worked with Node.js and React/Redux for a few projects. I have made up quite a few management systems responsible for handling events, registration, accomodation and payments of around 5000 participants.

While going through your project ideas I got very fascinated by the idea of Django-radius(OWUMUS) and would like to make my contributions in this project this summer. I went through the repositories of django-netjsconfig and django-x509. I have a decent experience with web application development with django.

This module could be easily written in Django Rest Framework to expose a RESTful API. We can also make

For the past few months I had been more involved with development of Web applications and Text Mining. Recently I have worked on a location based chat.A mini map will show you people nearby with which you can chat. There are location-interest based groups on which you can talk to people to explore the current location, get real reviews about places etc. Also there was a small chat bot which would book cabs, hotels, get you restaurants nearby with reviews and all.

You can check out my realtime, location based chat app here(Latch). Also it would be nice if you have more than 1 registrations from your location so that you can properly explore the application and chat with people nearby :).

I have made two such management systems for my college fests which were responsible for registration/accommodation/payment and event management of almost 5000 participants. It allowed the other departments(non-technical) coordinating the stay and events of participants in the fests to easily manage the pipeline of all the participants smoothly. I could make a decent analogy with your current project idea. The participants had personal dashboards where they could manage their information, group info, approval status and more. The administrators had a pretty large dashboard to control the registration, groups and events of different participants, judges, payment, allotment of rooms and so much more. I can not explain the whole project here but if time permits, kindly go through the github repositories

I have shared my work experience and projects in a detailed manner in my CV. Kindly go through it if time permits.

Lately I have been doing plenty of projects, hence I am already in a very good programming flow, I would love to program a basic prototype and so that I can assure you that I am capable to undertaking this GSoC project. Please guide me on how to proceed.

Thanks,
Amritanshu Jain

Welcome Amritanshu Jain,

great resume!

I suggest you to look on this mailing list for previous emails regarding GSoC and the project you are interested in. There are some other students that have asked how to start and I replied several times in similar ways (play with openwisp, see what you like, find open issues to work on, open new bug reports, find a way to contribute actively), start asking more specific questions.

Thanks!
Federico
