Hello OpenWISP community,

My name is Shubham Chaudhari and I am a B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering student at Parul University, India.

I am very interested in contributing to OpenWISP as a potential Google Summer of Code 2026 contributor. I have experience with Python, Java, networking concepts, and working with Git/GitHub for collaborative development. I am currently focusing on improving my open-source contribution skills and learning large-scale codebases.

I have started exploring the OpenWISP repositories and the contributing guidelines. Since OpenWISP works at the intersection of networking, automation and Python development, it aligns strongly with my interests and academic background.

While exploring the project, I found several areas that seem interesting to learn and possibly contribute to:

1. Improving documentation for first-time contributors and developers setting up the OpenWISP environment.
2. Enhancing monitoring dashboards to make device status visualization clearer and easier to interpret.
3. Exploring small usability improvements in the OpenWISP controller interface.
4. Working on beginner issues labeled for new contributors to understand the architecture and codebase.

I would really appreciate guidance from the community on:

1. Good first issues that are recommended for new contributors.
2. Any specific modules or repositories that are ideal for beginners to start with.
3. Suggestions on how I can gradually get more involved in the project.

I am eager to learn from the community and contribute meaningfully to OpenWISP.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to collaborating with you all.
