Confusion and Doubts How Openwisp2 collecting data from devices: reg

Hi team,

              What exactly does it mean:: metrics collected actively by OpenWISP: Server will make requests to the devices to collect monitoring data all the time?  And In the document not mentioned what are all the parameters it will collect from this one. 

One thing I understood was PING and Configuration check will be initiated by the server not the devices.  Because of it Ping success rate and rtt and packet loss charts will appear. How signal strength and signal quality and some other charts will appear?

 

metrics collected passively by OpenWISP - This data will be shown in the status menu of each device. If I am not wrong.  This request was sent by the devices to the server via API request. 

Passive vs Active Metric Collection

The the different device metric collected by OpenWISP Monitoring can be divided in two categories:

1. metrics collected actively by OpenWISP: these metrics are collected by the celery workers running on the OpenWISP server, which continuously sends network requests to the devices and store the results;

2. metrics collected passively by OpenWISP: these metrics are sent by the OpenWrt Monitoring Agent installed on the network devices and are collected by OpenWISP via its REST API.                                                                                                                                                                                                                Thanks in advance.                                                                                                           Regards,                                                                                                                             Logu

As explained in the docs, active metric collection is performed by the server (workers running in the background and processing a queue of periodic checks, like ping).

Mobile signal data is collected by the monitoring agent if any modemmanager interface is available.
