Which openwisp Variant should we use? We have never used this system before, so please let us know which is most common to deploy and use.

Seems there are 4 available:

Package name Version Size (.ipk) Description
openwisp-config-cyassl 0.4.5-2 10752 Remote configuration management agent (CyaSSL variant)
openwisp-config-mbedtls 0.4.5-2 10753 Remote configuration management agent (mbedTLS variant)
openwisp-config-nossl 0.4.5-2 10744 Remote configuration management agent (No SSL variant)
openwisp-config-openssl 0.4.5-2 10754 Remote configuration management agent (OpenSSL variant)

Hello and welcome,

it all boils down to the SSL/TLS library used. Since most routers and embedded devices have limited space, firmware designer should choose one such library and stick to it.

Leaving out openwisp-config-nossl which may be good only for development, when choosing between the remaining 3 it's just a matter of asking "which SSL/TLS library do we want to use?".

If you don't suffer for extreme space limitations and you want to go for the most common one, go for openssl.

Best regards
Federico

Thanks I will go with OpenSSL then. Overall, there seems to by bytes of difference is size. I assume the dependencies is what causes OpenSSL to be bigger?
