GSoC 2026 applicant introduction — WiFi Login Pages

Hi everyone,

I am Surya, a second year B.Tech CS student at NIT Patna,
applying for GSoC 2026 with OpenWISP on the WiFi Login Pages
Modernization project.

I have been reading the openwisp-wifi-login-pages codebase and
found a small accessibility bug — the logout iframe in status.js
has title="owisp-auth-iframe" which should be
title="owisp-auth-logout-iframe" to match its name attribute and
correctly identify it for screen readers.

I have the fix ready locally with all tests passing, but the
repository has contribution restrictions that prevent me from
opening a PR as a new contributor. Could someone advise how
to proceed?

Looking forward to contributing to OpenWISP.

Welcome Surya,

Before opening pull requests, make sure to open an issue first so we can validate this is a real issue.

I also have to ask everyone to stop looking for little issues nobody cares about. We are getting avalanched with irrelevant work and AI slop, due to this our ability to mentor new people has been impacted negatively. 

We have a huge list of issues in different repositories with real world feedback, gsoc contributors should mostly focus on those.
