Hi everyone,
Thank you all for taking the time to contribute to OpenWISP and for applying to GSoC 2025!
We currently have 8 active mentors and have received 55 proposals. We plan to accept a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 proposals.
The remaining proposals generally fall into one of the following categories:
- Some proposals focus on modules the contributor has not actively worked on, which raises concerns about their ability to successfully complete the proposed project. In this case there's still time for the contributor to amend this and convince us.
-
The proposal lacks implementation details (such as a written plan, code samples, UI mockups, or diagrams), which indicates the contributor has not demonstrated a solid understanding of the problem.
- The proposal shows effort but was submitted very late, leaving little time for feedback or improvement. While the contributor may have potential, starting late with both contributions and proposal preparation makes it difficult to compete with those who began earlier. In these cases, we strongly encourage continuing to contribute and applying again next year.
- Some contributors have been inconsistent in their activity or have been slow to respond to pull request reviews.
- Some applicants have not contributed at all and therefore do not meet the basic criteria for acceptance.
Please keep in mind that the goal of GSoC is to foster long-term contributors to open source communities. It is not only about submitting one or two pull requests, sustained participation is key.
We are looking for individuals who can continue collaborating with us over time and potentially take on mentorship roles in the future, just as some of our current mentors were past GSoC contributors themselves.
