to Open Web TO
Hey Folks,

So we've got plans for our 3rd meetup now and I'm running out of the
stuff I had immediately planned for :) I'd like to invite anyone who is
interested to propose a presentation / discussion topic.

So far the topics have been pretty technical (WebFinger, OAuth, etc) and
I'd like to continue to have space for that, but I'd also like to open
it up to other things people might find applicable. Some ideas:

* Case studies for using open web technologies. Is your company
solving problems with open web tech? Are you a part of a non-profit or
social organization using the open web?

* Promotion / Evangelism for the open web - Are you involved in any
education initiatives that help people understand the web? Doing
something like Peer-to-peer university? Working with the Mozilla
Drumbeat community? Tell others all about it!

* Project presentations - Played around with one of the new-fangled
distributed social networks (Appleseed, Diaspora, OneSocialWeb, etc)?
Using something like Status.Net in your organization / company / clique?
Want to share your experiences?

* Anything else you can think of!

The only restrictions I'm going to ask that we put on presentation /
discussion topics:

* Must be related to the open web, although this can include web
standards and protocol level stuff, accessibility, open source software,
net neutrality, etc. Pretty vague, but must relate to "open".

* No sales pitches :) If you work for a company that is doing really
cool stuff on the open web and you'd like to share your work, that's
awesome. If your presentation is all about how your companies product is
the best at solving xyz, that's probably not so awesome.

Feel free to discuss on-list or contact me separately if you'd like to
chat about a presentation! I'd also love to hear peoples thoughts about
formats, scope, etc.

Cheers,

I am really interested in Firefox's recently announced Account Manager
plug in that they seem keen on putting into the browser itself.

I haven't finished reading the spec, but by July I'm sure I will have.
:-) I'd love to discuss this more if people are interested, especially
if any of the Mozilla people have any insight to share too (and even if
not, I'm sure it would be useful for them to be flies on the wall and
share the love with the other lizard wranglers).

Hi Julian,

I think that'd be a great topic. I've been paying attention to the work
being done on the Account Manager and I'm also really interested. Love
how it builds on some of the discovery specs that James presented at the
last meetup.

I'm working for Mozilla now, albeit not on Firefox or anything to do
with the labs work. If you want to go ahead and present for July, I'll
be sure to send an invite / note around to the folks in the Toronto office.

Cheers,

I'm not sure I'd call it a "presentation", probably more a
conversation. :-) But sure, let's go for it. Is there a date set yet
for July?

Hi Julian,

Not yet, we usually (and by me, I mean James) book the room for the
following month some time shortly after each meeting. Since the next
meeting is tomorrow, we should have a date in the next week or two. I'll
send a note once it's confirmed.

Cheers,
Paul
