Note from the Virginia Tech side,
I have worked with multiple successful teams on proposals and as a project collaborator. I and am happy to share/discuss past successful applications, collaborate on applications (as time allows) and answer questions from a grantee perspective. Even if
you do not plan to avail yourselves of these services, it is helpful to know who is interested as I try to keep abreast of interest/engagement with OER/affordability of course materials around campus. Kindly inform me if you are planning to apply. And please
feel reach out with questions.
The forwarded information below (without yellow highlights) is from VIVA and is also available via
VIVA's Grant page.

Dear Colleagues,
VIVA is pleased to announce the opening of a new round of VIVA Open Adopt Grants and VIVA Open Creation Grants. Applications opened September 4 and are due on October 12.
Applications will be accepted in both of the following categories:
$2,000
VIVA Open Adopt Grants support individuals as they transition to pre-existing Open Educational Resources (OER). Proposed projects may involve adopting a single
OER or a group of resources. Associated courses must be credit-bearing, and instructors must commit to providing VIVA with a final report and an openly licensed syllabus. Any materials created with this funding must be openly licensed and made available for
feature on VIVA Open, VIVA’s OER repository. Adopt grants will be awarded during the spring semester and instructors must complete the project by Spring, 2028.
VIVA
Open Creation Grants
$15,000-$50,000
VIVA Open Creation Grants (formerly VIVA Open Course Grants) support teams as they create high-quality materials for credit-bearing courses at VIVA institutions.
Proposed projects should address an area of need in open education, result in significant student cost avoidance, create course materials and methods that are replicable in other courses and classrooms, and are pedagogically innovative. Grant recipients create
course materials and then work with VIVA to publish them in a professional and accessible format. All materials must be piloted in the recipients’ classrooms, peer reviewed, copyedited, and accessibility checked by VIVA publishing, as well as eligible for
other publishing services, including design and typesetting.
The VIVA Open Grant applications must be filled out online, but a pdf preview can be found, along with
the application link, on the
grants application and RFP page. There you will also find the RFP and the application instructions,
which you are encouraged to read. All applicants must complete an initial application that includes basic information about the project, budget and team, as well as a two-page project description. Adopt Grants will be awarded on the strength of this initial
application. Adopt grant recipients will be notified of award by December 1.
For Creation Grants, this is a two-step application process. After review of the initial project description, finalists will be notified and asked to complete a more extensive application.
Finalists will be notified by December 1, with final applications due on February 5. Final notifications will be made by April 1.
