Happy Spring Break at Virginia Tech -- and Happy Open Education Week!

While international Open Education Week events overlap with VT's Spring Break and VT's programs occur later (see next paragraph) if you'd like to participate in Open Education Week you can still head over to oeweek.org to see the calendar of 244 events hosted by 135 organizers from around the world and explore the growing collection of open assets shared to the world’s OER repositories. A list of all of today’s events is available on the OEWeek website, and some highlights for the week are forwarded below.

In two weeks the University Libraries' Open Knowledge Committee is again hosting a "Connecting the Opens" panel discussion in partnership with the Grad School's Future Professoriate course. This panel will feature library faculty specializing in Open Publishing, Open Data, and Open Education and will be joined by Emeritus Professor, Dr. Don Orth, author of peer-reviewed open textbook: Fish, Fishing and Conservation (2023). (See book review.) This event is scheduled for March 18th 6-8pm in person and online. Register here

Published (and forthcoming) openly-licensed works published thru the Open Education Initiative are listed and linked from https://bit.ly/VTOERShowcase. Further information about these open educational resources (OER) releases and their respective stories at: https://openvt.lib.vt.edu

NOTE: Grants are available for summer work so if you or colleagues have a project in mind to leverage or create an more open, affordable learning strategy using, customizing, or creating open educational resources, or if you're interested in collaborating on assessment software pilot projects (example) to replace homework software access codes, or in other projects we're working on regarding accessibility of documents created in LaTeX, I'd love to hear from you. Please contact me or book an appointment with me.

Warm regards,
Anita
