Proposals for the VIVA Open and Affordable Community Forum are due September 13, 2026
This year’s theme, “Community and Connections: Cultivating your Open Community,” invites attendees to consider how they have built or hope to build support and connection in their open work, whether within their classes, institutions, disciplines, or beyond. By creating connections and moving beyond silos, we hope to be stronger in our own work and as a community. The Forum Planning Committee invites proposals for sessions that align with this theme in the following categories:
- Long sessions: 40-minute panels or presentations. Should include 10-15 minutes for questions or discussion.
- Lightning Talks: 5-7 minute short talks providing an overview of a program or project.
Proposals should include
- Title
- abstract of no more than 250 words,
- information about how your presentation aligns with the theme and
- presenters’ names, email addresses, and institutional affiliations.
Submit to the OER Showcase!
All in the Virginia Open Education community are also encouraged to submit to the Forum’s OER Showcase, a celebration of open education projects from around the state, regardless of whether they submit a session proposal. To be included in the showcase, submit:
- Project title and authors
- An image of the OER tool or resource (ex. OER cover)
- A URL at which the OER can be found
- A few sentences or bullet points (max. 150 words) describing the project, its impact, or anything else you’d want to highlight.
