Hello,

I'm new to OpenVSP. I'm currently working on modeling a glider. I already have my geometry done. I was wondering if there is anyway that I can determine the stability and control derivatives via OpenVSP? or do I have to export my geometry into another program. If so, which program would be best.

Thanks,

Adam D'Silva

You can use AVL.

Thank you Karen.

I'm not exactly sure how to export my geometry (from openvsp) so that AVL can read it. Any suggests would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Adam

Hi Adam;

Currently, there is no good export path to AVL. The degenerate plate meta-geometry export is intended to ease this, but someone developing AVL would have to write a reader function to take it in directly, or anyone who understands both formats could write a translator. We are currently working on a translator, but I can't promise a time when it will be available.

We are also developing a whole new Vortex Lattice (VL) analysis that does use the degenerate plate meta-geometry export directly, but it is also not ready for release. VSPaero is in development because the lawyers made it impossible for us to distribute our version of VorLax.

So, for now, there is no simple solution. If you are not familiar with AVL, another option is to try XFLR5, which has a GUI and is somewhat easier to build models in, but it is all manual and all you.

Regards,

Andy Hahn

As of now you have to manually create AVL input files. However, there is a version of AVL under development that allows to bypass the tedious manual input file creation and allows to use a friendly GUI instead. Shoot me an email if you want, I will hook you up.
