Good evening,

I'd like to be able to use some of the basic functions of my 3D connexion SpaceMouse inside OpenVSP.

Nothing fancy, I'd like to trigger different camera views with custom buttons, and be able to
manoeuvre the view with joystick.
All of the above mentioned commands are easy to map onto mouse, but OpenVSP doesn't recognise anything but the default mouse/ trackpad in my case as I'm on Mac.

thanks in advance for any help!

Cheers,
Brani

I've tried this before with a mapping function to the orbital mouse axes.  Unfortunately, the functions don't execute in parallel so you end up limited to left/right or up/down.  Can't do diagonals.  It wasn't worth the jarring visuals.  Maybe other software is out there to do a better job but I still use my regular mouse.  It's how VSP understands screen control.

I've looked at adding support for 3D Connexion's SpaceMouse and other similar technology.

Unfortunately, although they make API's, drivers, and documentation available for adding support to commercial software, they do not support open source software in a way that would let me distribute a copy of OpenVSP that included support for their products.

A new version of FLTK (our GUI widget software) is due out soon.  It will include improved gesture support, so we should soon support pinch to zoom, two-finger rotate, three-finger pan, etc.

Might be worth looking into how this is done on FreeCAD, this manages to use the 3D mouse (including in Linux version). I would also like to be able to use a 3D mouse with VSP, I've got quite used to having it in FC now, to the extent that I often find my hand going out to grab for it when I'm working in VSP!

I'm happy for someone to figure it out.

As I recall, there is an open source effort to create drivers for the 3D Connection products -- https://spacenav.sourceforge.net/

Although I'm a Mac user, about 90% of OpenVSP users are on Windows, so whatever you end up with really needs to think about all users.

As I recall, FC is making use of those open source drivers....
