Hi everyone

I'm new using OpenVSP so I'm hoping some of you could help me.

When I'm using OpenVSP and try the Degen Geom command, the program keeps on freezing, as well as when I try VSPAero. Does someone of you know what can be the cause of this?

Thanks in advance.

Floris

It is most likely something peculiar with your geometry.  If you can post your *.vsp3 file, we may be able to help sort it out.

I see this as well. My solution is to delete all files except the .vsp3 and then open the vsp3 file and start again.

Hi

Tried thad, Alan, without any result. Here you can find my .vsp3-file.

It's the same problem with every file I try...

Thanks again!

Just adding to this conversation, there's probably something wrong with your VSP installation.
I was able to open your vsp3 file and generate the degenGeom without any issues. Haven't tried running it in VSPAero though.

I noticed two possible issues with your file.

1) You still had a MeshGeom from a prior operation included.  It was No-Show, but sometimes if you don't clean up these remnants from prior operations - and they get included in a subsequent operation - they perfectly overlap and can cause the algorithm to crash.  This may not have been it, but something to watch out for.

2) Your vertical tail had XZ symmetry turned on -- this created two tails that perfectly overlap (since it is rotated 90 degrees, but on the centerline of the aircraft).  This will also result in perfectly overlapping components which will likely cause problems for some of the algorithms.

I turned off XZ symmetry on the vertical tail and had no trouble running VSPAERO.

You'll want more spanwise resolution - particularly towards the tips.
