Is anyone else having problems running OpenVSP or VSPAero on the latest Windows 10 updates? Simply put, my files keep corrupting and VSPAero will not run with a model I need to run it on.

I've now tried contacting Microsoft Support four times to try and resolve this (plus a different issue I am having with another program). The first restored my Windows 10 version to a version in place back before April of this year (worked for maybe a week), the second ended up updating my laptop (worked for about a month), the third ended up getting disconnected, and the fourth couldn't do much to help besides recommending I submit support requests for VSP and the other program while they submitted a report to Windows 10 engineers. I am sincerely afraid right now that messing with a model that I need to work on will cause it to corrupt - I've already lost weeks worth of work on other files over this. I have not yet tried using the latest update.

More details about the problems I'm having can be found at the following bug link:

Can you share the file that is giving you problems?  What exactly are the steps that cause things to crash -- either on the VSP side or the VSPAERO side.

I don't know whether or not I can share the file, so I'm going to stay on the safer side for now.

Specifically, the file corruption occurs when I try to use Span, Area, and Sec SW as restraints on a wing geom (the issue originally started with me trying to change the dimensions of a different model's tail back in April. I had calculated the needed area and was trying to align the trailing edge of the "dorsal fin" section of the tail with the trailing edge of the rest of the tail). Unfortunately, repeatedly adjusting these three values (changing the Sec SW of one section caused the Sec SW of the other section to change) eventually changes all of the other wing restraints/measurements to "nan(undefined)" which causes OpenVSP to crash when I try to change any of the restraint values. Additionally, if I switch to any of the other restraints, the restraint I had selected previously also changes to "nan(undefined)". If the file crashes enough times, the opening dialogue box displays "Failure in SkinRibs set_conditions", and the file is unrecoverable without starting over.

As far as VSPAero is concerned, I try to run it like I normally would on the file I created a few days ago (Reference Area From Model, Calc CG, and which speeds and AOA I want it to run) but the very first Wake Iteration line returns "Reduction: nan / -1.00000". This then causes OpenVSP to crash, but it does not seem to create any critical errors, not yet anyway.

I've never had an issue with OpenVSP or VSPAero until after my laptop updated Windows 10 in April.

Also, now that I think about it, the Microsoft Support person I talked to did mention that part of the problem could be that OpenVSP is incompatible with the latest Windows 10 updates, but I have no idea whether or not that is the case.

Alright, I just got confirmation that I can share the file. The model is based on SelectTech Geospatial's EP-3000 UAV. This is mainly the one giving me problems with VSPAero right now, though I've had problems with others as well.

Hi,

if the model you tested is exaclty that enclosed, Windows is not the problem.
I suppose you used VLM method

Try as follows:
- Remove booms : unnecessary for such a kind of analysis.
- Use finer panelling  on the wing an cluster panels at the tip
- Tail: check " Rotate foil to match dihedral"
- Remove the fuselage: same reason of boomes. Beside first and last section are poor modelled.

Wing and tails should be sufficient for the purposes one expects from such an analysis.

Hope this can help

I see what happened now with VSPAero, but that doesn't answer why VSP is corrupting my files. My major problem is still occurring and I don't want to lose any more files...

I was able to open one of the corrupted files. The geometry I have selected was supposed to be the tail.
