Hi,

I'm building an aircraft with the engine integrated into the fuselage. The air intakes are located on the sides of the fuselage — a configuration somewhat similar to the F-16.

My question is about the recommended way to model the internal engine duct region.

Should the internal flow path be modeled as:

  • a hollow/pass-through volume inside the fuselage,
  • separate internal surfaces defining the duct walls,
This is meant to be used then on VSAERO.

Any guidance or examples would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You should check out the 'Integrated Flowpath Modeling' presentation from the 2025 Workshop
