I'm trying to insert two spars in a model of a wing I have. The taper varies, so, to keep the spar at the same location relative to the chord length, I opted to use 3 different sections for each spar, 1 for each section of varying taper. It's worked fine for the 2 outer sections, fore and aft 2 and 3. Fore is a spar at 20% of the chord, and aft is at 70%. The 2 inboard sections, fore and aft 1, however, have only generated the mesh and intersected properly on one side. I tried turning off the trim to bounding box setting, which let it intersect properly, however, it then caused the mesh to break when generating. The ribs seems to have been detected as symmetrical and intersected properly. Below is a photo of the resulting mesh when trim to bounding box is turned on, note that the midpoint of the wing is at the top of the mesh gap. Is there something blaringly obvious I've done wrong as I'm quite new to using openVSP?

What version of OpenVSP are you using?

I strongly recommend you use the 'polyspar' instead of individual spars.  The polyspar is much better at connecting out a multi-segment wing like this.

If using the latest version with polyspar doesn't help, post your *.vsp3 file and I may be able to look at it.

I'm on 3.48.2, I did spot the polyspar but didn't really know how it worked so went back to a standard spar. I think the main problem area was at the last 10% or so of the span so I just opted to not have a spar there as I don't think the aircraft I was modelling did. The inner 2 sections are much larger than the third and the second section is only a light taper so having a slightly diagonal spar didn't make it look to crazy. I'll take another look at the polyspar though, thanks.

You should be able to make a polyspar that only extends part of the span of the wing.
