Hi,

Is it possible to set up OpenVSP so that instead of aircraft parts it generates other vehicle parts, such as bicycle frames whose geometry and profiles can be adjusted parametrically? Would this be possible through some kind of custom part template? If so could someone point me in a right direction where I can find the template examples/code so that I can work on this?

For example instead of FUSE/FUSE2 I would like to be able to generate FRAME or WHEEL and vary their geometries and profiles parametrically.

A similar feature set would be useful for automotive designers where they could define a BODY, MIRRORS, etc. parts.

Thanks,

Victor

Victor,

At present, VSP only supports the set of components you see there.  Although they are aimed at aircraft, if you are creative, you can use them to represent things that are very different.  I have had students model terrestrial vehicles in the past -- but I don't have any of those models.

The soon to be released version 3.0 of VSP will come with a user defined component capability.  We are embedding a scripting language in VSP and you will be able to use that to define new components using your own parameters.

When the user defined component capability takes more concrete form, we will extend the Hangar to also provide an online exchange for those components.

Thank you for the quick reply Rob. I really look forward to the version 3.0!
