Hi Rob,

I'm trying to teach myself the custom component feature, inspired by your presentation at the 2016 workshop. I think that this great feature can save a lot of time in the long run, if one has to configure the most frequently used geometries only once.

I was trying to replicate/modify your missile example from the workshop. The body geometry was quite simple, working along the cone and fuselage geometry examples. But I'm stuck at adding fins to the body.

This old thread helped a lot, but I am still clueless when it comes to handeling custom wing geometries.

Would it be possible that you share the components you showed off during the workshop (e.g. in the hangar) ? I think they would serve as great examples how to model more complex geometries using custom scripts. Personlly I'd be most interested in the missile and distributed propulsion examples.

Thanks for your help and the great work of the entire team,
Felix

Felix,

I'm sorry, but I'm not currently in a position to distribute those examples -- they were written by others and I don't have permission to distribute.

If you have specific questions, I can do my best to answer those.

The thread you linked ended in a discussion of scaling custom components -- the ability to support scaling custom components has been added since that time.  Further, the utility of scaling components in OpenVSP was recently greatly improved by supporting group translate/scale.

When you make a custom component, there is no custom wing, or other type.  Everything is constructed the same way.  So, if you want to make a 'wing', you build it up as a stack of cross sections...

Rob,

I was having problems with the rotation features, but then I found the components by Michael Waddington in the Hangar. Those files solved my issues (especially the DropTank).

Thank you for your help.

Felix
