FEA .stp file corrupt when adding spars

Hi community,

when exporting a .stp file from the FEA Mesh generator (within OpenVSP) I have an issue opening these files in Prepomax (Calculix GUI) and in Siemens NX. This only occurs when adding the spars, when just adding ribs it works fine. Could this be due to the spars overlapping with the ribs?

I hope someone has a workaround for this issue. If not, can someone advise a tool for performing trimming of the untrimmed struct .stp file?

If you can send me the example file, I can possibly take a look.

I am currently working on making the structures stuff better, so having failure cases is timely.

Make sure you're running the latest version of OpenVSP.  I've made some recent improvements to the surface intersection code that might help (but might not).

Any CAD tool should be able to trim the un-trimmed surfaces.  You might need to turn the wing surface into a solid first.  You'll need to seek help from someone who knows how to work whatever CAD tool you have access to.

Hi Rob, 

that would be great! Attached you will find a sample file with ribs and spars (which does not work) and a file just with ribs that works. I have also noticed in the cmd window of OpenVSP 3.27.1 the error message attached (cmd_error.png). Also attached are the error messages I get from siemens nx 12 (ImportError_NX.png) and Prepomax (ImportError_Prepomax.png), which is used as a Calculix GUI.
