Hello everybody,

I've been following the tutorials for using VSPAero (http://www.openvsp.org/wiki/doku.php?id=vspaerotutorial) and I'm a bit confused on the Setup file. I have a couple of questions which I numbered.

(1) Do you really need to convert to the English units for the setup files to work?
I've created a model based on an existing UAV and the units used are in centimeters. Then I ran analysis using English units (as per VSPAero tutorial guide shows). Now I am having doubts after VSPAero finished the results of my analysis. I require clarification on this matter.
(2) What does the Stability Calculation tick/checkbox do?
(3) For the reference area/ length tab, I ticked the "From Model"  box. Can you choose any of the parts in your model (My model is a UAV box wing that contains front canards, front lower wing & back upper wing - I removed the winglets as VSPAero always crashes with it) or is there a SPECIFIC reference wing to be selected?
(4) Can the VSPAero Solver solve box wings? I don't really see many models on box wings in the VSP Hangar (Or I haven't been looking far enough).

Thank you for the help,
Klif

The only part of VSPAERO that cares about your dimensions is the
actuator disk calculations. If you aren't using that, your dimensions
shouldn't matter.

> (2) What does the Stability Calculation tick/checkbox do?

It turns on optional calculation of common stability derivatives.

Choosing 'From Model' allows you to choose any Wing component as the
reference wing. That wing does not have to be in the Set used by
VSPAERO. It only provides reference area/chord/span, nothing magical.
The values it supplies are displayed in the GUI.

VSPAERO should be able to model box wings.

The Hangar is a fun place to look around, but don't take it as a set
of best practices. Most of those models pre-date VSPAERO by a long
shot, most of them will have problems with serious analysis.

Thank you very much sir. I haven't had the luxury of time to give my thanks when I read your reply back March.
