Rate and downsampling combination

Hello all

Currently, I have a weir response from openTSDB. I very appreciate if anyone can help me to understand the case

#Scenario 1:

We have 3 data points like below

- 07:15:10  value 1

- 07:30:10  value 2

- 07:45:10  value 3

My query to openTSDB: start=07:30:00&end=08:00:00&m=avg:rate{counter,9223372036854775807}:avg:1800s-avg

I have rate and downsampling options. The period is 30 minutes. Noted that I don't have any more data points after 07:45:10

The openTSDB response is

07:30:00  value 8.333333333333334E-4

#Scenario 2:

We have 3 data points like below

- 06:45:10  value 1

- 07:00:10  value 2

- 07:15:10  value 3

My query to openTSDB: start=07:00:00&end=07:30:00&m=avg:rate{counter,9223372036854775807}:avg:1800s-avg

The openTSDB response is nothing. Noted that I don't have any more data points after 07:15:10

So it makes me really confusing. Why did the 2nd scenario return nothing?
