Hello all. The first soft release of the phylotastic mobile app is due out next week. The workflow is (1) take photo of sign (museum, arboretum, zoo, hallway poster, etc), (2) app does OCR, finds taxon names, adds to list, (3) repeat as needed, (4) get tree for taxa from OpenTree. We have a limited number of slots for alpha testers. If you have an iOS device and are interested in trying this out in the real world, let me know (Android version may appear soon). You will then receive instructions for how to obtain the app.

This is an initial clumsy implementation, although the ability to capture names from signage is quite good. Our goal is to find out whether anyone would find this useful, so that we can decide whether to continue development, and in what direction. Regards,
