Hello OpenTreeMap community,

As you've been aware, we've been hard at work this year developing "OTM2", the next generation of the OpenTreeMap software that powers the OpenTreeMap.org platform. In the past (earlier this year and last year), we cautioned the community that the OTM2 repository has been in a state of flux and rapid development and not friendly to folks trying to implement it.

OTM2 has been getting more and more stable with more features each passing week. It is still in active development, but we are now at the point that we are pleased to announce detailed install instructions and encourage community members interested in implementing an OTM2 site from the open source code to give it a try!

You'll find detailed information in the main OTM2 wiki, including an 11-step Installation Guide that covers all steps needed to get a map running - database, OTM2 app, tiler, ecobenefits, etc.

Additionally, thanks primarily to OTM team member Michael Maurizi, there is a new otm2-vagrant project available that has been tested on both Linux and Windows. otm2-vagrant makes it easy to clone the relevant repositories and set up a Vagrant-based virtual machine environment useful for developing and testing OTM2, and even contributing back to the project.

As always, we welcome your feedback, comments, questions, and even pull requests!

Thanks,

Andrew
