The window is just grey. If I draw on it, the program says there's a circle there in the levels and the xsheet, but I personally can't see anything! I'm really confused. pictures included to display problem. I am aware that the white background turns grey when you select the levels, but my whole circle shouldn't be missing. that's my issue.

Short of a graphics card issue (where you would likely need to update your driver) I can't think of a specific reason why this would happen although there have been some reports related to this with the most recent official release.

To test you could install and test an older release or install the OTX or Morevna releases.
There are specific OTX and Morevna release that reportedly correct display problems.

My primary thought is that I see in your screenshot that you are in a Drawing room and yet (to my recollection) that doesn't look like the default Drawing room.
If that is the case and you've changed things around you might want to install a fresh copy of OpenToonz to get back to the default setup and see if that doesn't solve the problem.

Without seeing this on my computer it's hard to troubleshoot what you are experiencing on yours.
Not impossible though and making sure you have the latest release installed is always a good first move.
If not sure... give the Morevna or OTX releases a try and see how they work for you.

Before considering installations...  I should have suggested...

Make sure you right click and select 'Fit to Window' or... in cases where that option doesn't appear 'Reset Window'.
This will make sure the canvas hasn't accidentally been moved or scaled way off center.

Come to think of it...
The last time I ran into something like this I think I had accidentally scaled my Camera to some crazy dimension.
Investigating that got it back into view.
I don't think this is your issue because I don't see a keyframe set in your xsheet but... it's worth looking into.

I did try that first, having had a previous copy of open toonz on another computer. It is centered and, unfortunately, that hasn't fixed anything either.

You are right in noticing that I shuffled around some of the windows in my drawing room, however the canvas wasn't there before I started moving things around to make it more comfortable for me to use. I downloaded this from the official site, so it could be the release. Are the Morevna and OTX releases safe?

I've never had an issue with them (and have been using both of the latest releases of Morevna and OTX today!  Installed them yesterday and today... because the latest OTX was released today)

Be brave.  Be bold.  If something isn't working... find another way!  :)

I'm having the same issue, wolfgirl! I downloaded the program no too long ago, the 3rd of the month maybe. Ever since I've downloaded the program I haven't been able how to fix the grey box to show my drawing space. It registers that I'm drawing in there though, because whatever I draw shows up in the two small boxes to the right.
Have you been able to fix it yet? :/

This is a known issue and is a duplicate of another.

For now, the easiest workaround is to download the OTX or Morevna edition which has the offending code reverted but still allows you access to all the other changes in 1.2.  Or, drop back to 1.1.3 and wait until the official 1.2 version is fixed.

Another way to fix this is if you are on a laptop (or a PC) with a high-end graphics card (NVIDIA, AMD), you will need to go into your graphic card's settings and create a profile for the OT executable and force it there to use the high-end card since it doesn't by default.

Another thing to rule out (for those whose problem may resemble this but not be the same).
If drawing with vector lines make sure those lines are not zero thickness.

In Preferences > Visualization there is also an option to 'Show lines with zero thickness.'

That likely won't be the problem but it's good to rule that one out when troubleshooting.
Especially as that option is on by default (I think).

So to recap:
If using vector lines...
If lines are zero thickness..
If 'Show lines with zero thickness' is not enabled in Preferences...
Drawn lines may not appear on the canvas but will appear elsewhere (such as in preview/icon images).

As always, if experiencing problem with the official release it may be well worth the time to install a nightly release or the OTX or Morevna releases because they may contain fixes not included in the official release.
