Hi Jennifer,
I'll first recommend updating to Windows 8.1 or even Win10 but... press on. press on.
If you cannot get the official release to launch perhaps the portable version will work for you.
The portable version is taken directly from the official branch but adapted so that the program itself doesn't have to be installed.
As such it can be launched from any directory/folder it resides in... even from a USB stick plugged into your computer.
You SHOULD be able to run the official release but at least testing use of the portable release will let you know if Opentoonz can run without issues on your system.
Other than that it's mostly a matter of taking the time to figure out what is gumming things up.
At a guess... and this is a guess based on personal experience as well as seeing the success of others.. I'd say that you've got another previous installation of Opentoonz that is interfering with the current one.
As such you should first UNINSTALL any program associated with Opentoonz before attempting a new install.
ALSO... it just occurred to me that the reason you can't run OT may be because you are running Windows in 32bit.
Opentoonz can only run on 64bit.
If you are if fact on 32bit windows that would be yet another reason to upgrade to Windows 8.1 or 10.
In the updating process just make sure to tell Windows to install to 64bit.
And note tha just because Windows is 64bit doesn't mean you can't run 32bit programs.. although... some of those may require running in compatibilty mode
Since you are already on Win 8 though I'd say you are mostly past that.
Aside: The primary benefit (in my estimation) to moving to 64bit is the access to greater memory that cannot be accessed via 32bit.
You may have a large amount of memory/RAM in your computer but 32bit can only access a small part of it.
So...
1. Make sure you are running Windows 64 bit.
2. Uninstall any previous install of OT
3. Consider using the portable release (although... this still requires a 64bit operating system)
The portable release of OT is put together by one of the folks helping to develop the official branch of OT. I use it in conjunction with the installed releases and keep a copy hand on my USB in case I need it somewhere OT isn't installed. :)
