How does Tape Tool work?

Hello, I am trying to close a small empty gap in a circle drawn in raster toonz level using the tape tool. I could draw the line with the brush tool, but am instead using the tape tool since I would like to figure out how it works. I have drawn the circle with a brush that is minimum 1, maximum 2.3 pixels in size. The settings for the tape tool are distance 8.9, angle 60. After making a selection over the gap in freehand mode, I am trying to paint the shape with the fill tool depth minimum 0, maximum 8, but the result is as shown above in picture number 3. Can anyone help me with this?

Tape tool only works in vector levels. It won't work on raster levels.

Tape Tool does work on Toonz Raster levels.

You have to select the appropriate parameters to see it at work, though.

Pay close attention to the Distance used (this distance also depends on the zoom level you're using, zoom back to ensure it actually closes the gap as expected). Also, if you want to see the line created, raise the Opacity value to 255 (normally the line created will be transparent, nonetheless it will close the area, and it will be fillable).

To make sure the closing is actually working as desired, you can enable View > Fill Check, where you can see the fillable areas as grey areas (no matter if they are actually filled of are just potentially fillable areas).

Your explanation on the tape tool settings has helped me better understand how the tool works. Thank you. One more question is, I have tried changing the parameters as in A and B above but

I can't get the tape to fill the gaps in one go. It took me several tries to successfully fill them up. Could this be a bug?

Yes, I think there's something strange, non intuitive, in the Tape tool's behavior, regarding the Distance parameter's function.

To make the tool work every time, I suggest you pull the Viewer zoom back to 50% or less.

But, nonetheless there's nowhere in the manual that suggests that Distance has anything to do with the Viewer zoom (nor it should, I suppose).

You may file an issue in the bug tracker, for this to be checked by developers.
