Yes, people absolutely do not understand the value of having OpenToonz free to use for any purpose.  It is astonishingly powerful and very friendly for every kind of user.  It is everything Toonz Harlequin was - with more to come (some features are only temporarily unavailable - but will become available soon).

True, the more you use this software the more you realize that.

Sorry to kevin N but you are wrong that is not for a team it is for a seat. You could rent seats on a monthly basis for about $600 each. $11995 per seat was par for the course a few years ago Toon Boom cost a similar ammount. Which is nothing compared to what professional animation packages used to cost houdini used to cost $40000 per seat and Softimage 3d was about $60000 per seat Maya was similar. Toonz was actually closer to $30000 per seat when I first heard about it.

Today ToonzPremium 7.2 costs $350 and after Anime Studio Pro it become the cheapest professional 2D animation software (excluding opentoonz)

Out of curiosity: where did you find that price tag of $350?

in my inbox, after I contact the company.

According to this price, Digital video now has to build value to make true this equation :

ToonzPremium - OpenToonz = $350

Good challenge.

psychoanima: thanks for answering.

Well, ToonzPremium are commercial software, and as such, I suppose you can get more support if things dont work. Like I can still not use open Toonz on my MAC because of the zoom-issue with wacoms, but if some programmers resolve that, Opentoonz are almost perfect.

Digital Video write on their site that they will "including the most interesting and powerfull OpenToonz features." and keep the two versions compatible.

Are they really allowed to do that? Just pull in commits from the open sourced versions and make money off peoples work without their permission? (I would at least expect there to be some sort of a agreement people would have to sign before upstreaming, if that was the case)

Here it is the agreement :

"Digital Video will also continue to develop and market a Toonz Premium version at a very competitive price for those companies willing to invest in the customization of Toonz for their projects."

I think that, to make feasible the Digital Video plan, logically it is important that OT be working ok from the beginning to strongly positioning both brands (Toonz Premium and OpenToonz). Seems to be, that will happend.
