Hello,

Recently I've been trying out the latest revisions of both OpenToonz and Tahoma2D -- initially alpha and beta versions, then stable releases. In that time, I created two short, silent sequences as part of a project:

OpenToonz 1.5 and Tahoma 2D 1.2

Tahoma 2D 1.2

My highest praise goes to the developers for these latest versions. Over several weeks of testing, I've compiled a list of bugs that, barring any mistakes on my part, are present in both OT 1.5 and T2D 1.2.

I hope to one day use this software for professional production work, so I'll also be posting a follow-up thread of feature requests.

Bugs
  • [Visualization > Reset Rotation]: sometimes doesn't properly reorient the view, and sometimes does nothing. My current solution is to use [Visualization > Reset View]. I've never been sure what causes this, but I suspect the [Flip Viewer Horizontally / Vertically] features may be involved.

  • If a tool is set to a combination of keys (like Alt + X, for example), it will sometimes automatically switch back to the previously selected tool when the keys are released.

I believe this happens because the perceived hold duration includes the time when only one of the keys is down. If this inclusive duration exceeds the value of the "Temporary Tool Switch Shortcut Time (ms)" setting, the tool changes back when the keys are released.

If this is the case, I think the hold duration should be limited to when all keys are held down simultaneously.

  • Brush tool (specifically with "Raster" brushes): after changing the brush size with the [Brush size - Increase max / Decrease max] shortcuts, the red circular outline of the cursor does not change size until a new brush stroke is made.

  • Zoom tool: when using a tablet, the zoom-out function stops working when the cursor moves too slowly. (Zooming in still works without problem.) I don't know if this is an issue with other tablets. I have an old Wacom Bamboo Fun (CTE-650/K) from 2010.

  • Eraser tool:

  • Selection tool:

    • Undoing the first adjustment to a selection cancels the selection outright; the user must create a new one.

    • Resizing a selection evenly (with the Shift key) only works for the corner handles. The others will ignore the Shift key and distort the contents.

    • If the column is rotated with the Rotate or Animate tool, the selection box is likewise tilted. Bug or not, this should probably be a toggle option.

    • Unlike selection boxes themselves, the resize icon that replaces the cursor (when hovering over one of the resize handles) is unaffected by view rotation. For example, the vertical resize icon will remain vertical even if the view is tilted at 90 degrees.

  • Timeline / Xsheet sub-window:

    • When changing the exposure time of a drawing, subsequent drawings move in the timeline but keys do not.

    • The "Canvas Size" right-click option :

      • After launching the software, the option is greyed out until the first time a column name is clicked in the left section (in the Timeline view) or the top section (in the Xsheet view). Selecting a frame on another column also seems to work, sometimes.

      • If the canvas-resize operation is undone, redoing it does not work, though the "Canvas Size" dialog box will still (incorrectly) display the new dimensions.

      • After changing the canvas size for a layer, it still isn't possible to draw outside the original borders. One solution is to restart the program right after changing the layer dimensions.

I hope this helps the development teams with their future revisions.

The documentation about the Opacity parameter for the Eraser Tool says: "This is available for Raster drawings only".

Indeed, it seems I've misread, my mistake. I do hope we see opacity supported for other level types at some point.
