After I attempted to use the FX, OpenToonz won't stay open, it closes whenever it feels like it. Help.

Every time I try to use the fill tool, or if I simply just press F, it automatically closes.

There was an issue with Fill Tool where if a specific setting is left on when OT restarts that setting will cause a crash.
This was resolved and so if you use a current nightly release you should not have that issue.

Nightly releases can be found here:

How do I properly insert the download into OpenToonz, and which downloads do I download?

There is no inserting.
It's just a regular installer which you run.
For windows you download the executable .exe file and run it as you would any installer on windows.  Here's a direct link to that:

For a Mac download the package file (I assume if you are on a Mac you'll know what to do with that).

I ran the download, but the same thing still happened.

I downloaded the effects from OpenToonz, and I haven't been using the FX button to apply the FX, so I'm guessing that the FX button had something todo with it crashing, because after I started only using the FX by right-clicking one of the lines and clicked on Add Effects and added them through the right-click window, the crashing problem stopped. Also, I'm using a Windows 10 Desktop computer(though it was originally Windows 8), and I have no way of knowing what graphics card it has.
