I have just recently downloaded OpenToonz version 1.2. on a Chromebook and my viewer/canvass is empty, as in that I can draw and the program picks up on that but it doesn't show what i'm doing.
I am aware this is a rather common issue but i haven't found a solution that works for me in any other thread so far and all the links to download modified versions aren't going through, can anyone help find a solution?

If you can screen record when this happens and share it here, it'll be easier to help work out what's happening on your system.

like this, when you try to draw on the canvass section it shows on the frame veiwer thing to the left (again, very new to the program, I don't know what it's called)

If you click on your drawing in the timeline (The yellow box that says "C    1"). That's drawing level C, Drawing number 1. Then you'll see your camera area (in white) and your canvas is likely going to be the same size. But you'll find it easier to see your lines.

I don't know whats going wrong here because even after the layer was selected the white canvass isn't showing up and when I make lines on the empty space the veiwer says "no icon" in red

That appears to be a display driver issue. What graphics card does your Chromebook use?  One thing is to make sure your graphic card drivers are up to date for your machine.

As Chromebook is Linux based, how did you install OpenToonz 1.2?  I do know that there was an issue with OpenToonz 1.2 and display drivers that required people to use the fix release OpenToonz 1.2.1.

Latest release is 1.5.  I would 1st suggest trying a more resent release.

it could be a problem with how i downloaded it, https://www.linuxmadesimple.info/2020/09/how-to-install-opentoonz-2d-animation.html
this is the tutorial I used to download OpenToonz on flatpak/flathub, there could be something wrong with this version or i could have wrote the lines down wrong on the linux terminal? I don't really know, its a newer Chomebook so I don't think there would be a problem there so i think the most plausible issue would be with the version

Flathub shows the OT version as 1.4, even though 1.5 was recently released. The flatpak for OT is owned and maintained by community members and not maintained officially so I don't know when it will be updated nor why it installed 1.2 for you.  Either way, it appears you are running into the display issue with 1.2 and you probably need to use a more recent version.

I'm not 100% sure if it will run on Chromebook,  but try downloading Linux AppImage of OTX 1.5 (a variant of OpenToonz) and see if it will work for you.

Pick the release and download OpenToonz-OTX-linux.tar.gz..  Unpack it (unzip or whatever to open it), move the entire OpenToonzPortable folder somewhere on your machine, like your Desktop, then run the OpenToonzPortable/OpenToonz.AppImage

So I've managed to download OpenToonz-OTX-win.zip and can view the OpenToonzPortable file with the different files inside the zip successfully but when i go to run the package it takes me to terminal and I don't know the command to download it, the sudo apt unzip command isn't working and i'm not sure where to find the correct command, do you have any knowledge on this??

You downloaded the wrong one.  Download OpenToonz-OTX-linux.tar.gz

To unpack in Terminal:

$ cd  ###to the directory where you have the OpenToonz-OTX-linux.tar.gz###
$ gunzip OpenToonz-OTX-linux.tar.gz
$ tar -xvf OpenToonz-OTX-linux.tar

To run from Terminal:

$ cd OpenToonzPortable
$ ./OpenToonz.AppImage
