I would like to be able to sketch on a layer, then "ink" it in on another layer then get rid of the first. How?

Not sure if this is too late and you've already know what you're doing now but here we go:

Layers in Opentoonz are called "Levels", you can have multiple types of levels but the main one's you'd be using are "Toonz Vector" (Brush works like "Flash" if you've ever used it) and "Toonz Raster" (Brush works like "Photoshop").

Go to File>New Level (i'd say start with a raster) on a new scene and designate how many frames your thinking of having, if you're not bothered about duration just put your "End" frame to something like 30.

Do your rough animation (it's hard to get used to switching back between drawing and navigating the XSheet but you get used to it) on your raster layer, then....when you're ready, go to File > New Level, set it to Toonz Vector and start your inking.

each column is a different layer. the levels are other thing, they work as separete groups and can exists many levels of one type in a same column

And that's why forums are helpful, thanks man, this helped me out hahaha, I never knew you could have 2 levels in the same column, the lack of tutorials and no prior knowledge of Toonz programs can be a real learning curve, wouldn't figure these sorta things out on my own.
