How to open the backup file

I accidentally got rid of my animation scene somehow and i think i have the backup file but i cant open it in opentoonz even if i rename the file to end with tnz instead of .bak

what do I do?

If you take the .bak off the end, it'll just open. It's just a copy of the last file before overwriting it with the changes.
However, if the last file was already corrupted, then the bak will just be a backup of that corrupted file.
