Hey guys.

Thought I would let you know how to install the plugins for those who don't know how

1. download the plugins zip and extract.. should be a folder like Dwango plugins or so.

2. make sure that you select what's inside that folder (everything) and copy it.. it should be a bunch of folders and a few files.. not a single folder. these folders are your effects

3. locate the Open toonz stuff folder that has been created while installing (this is not your program folder but more like a working folder with presets, projects files.. and plugins of course)

4. paste everything in Open toonz stuff / plugins

5. restart Open toonz

6. go to the Windows menu and click on Schematics

7. Once in the Schematic window, go to its bottom right corner, you will be able to switch to the FX Schematic from there. (see the attached image)

8. right click in the FX Schematic window, you will see a dropdown with your FX in.

Hope that helps!

Have you tested and confirmed this works? Because it doesn't work for me and your screenshot only shows the default pre-installed effects, according to an official screenshot it should have a separate DWANGO category.

I was gonna saw the same thing. Did not work for me. But after putting those files the plugins forlder as instructed here I did get a sweet bazillion error messages while starting up OpenToonz. None of them were visible in the list. I only got the default pre-installed effects as shown in the screenshot.

Thanks for the reply. I thought that everything was ok. Going to try something else

It keeps saying

"OpenToonz_1.0.exe - System Error

The program can't start because opencv_world310.dll is missing from
your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

I have to click OK exactly 20 times for the error to go away before OpenToonz actually starts.
It has something to do with putting those plugins in that folder.
If I delete them then OpenToonz starts without the error message.

I noticed a readme.md file in the original folder all these fx came in.
It's japanese. But this is what GOogle Translate tells us.
And apparently we may need something else installed in order to get them working.
Look:

DWANGO OpenToonz Plugins

[Opentoonz_plugin_utility] using the (https://github.com/opentoonz/opentoonz_plugin_utility), it is a sample of Plugin that Dwango developed. To run will require a run-time of `OpenCV`.

That's if you want to build from source I think. The plugins that we should be installing are in /bin/win/dwango_opentoonz_plugins/

I noticed there was no registry key pointing to the plugins folder so I tried adding it manually, no luck there either.

Hi there,

I was going to ask how you did it for Mac but i've hashed your guide notes with what i know about Mac. It didn't take too long to figure out where the FX icon was and where the filters were cheers.

You need to download OpenCV from here: http://opencv.org/
Unpack it, then in the unpacked folder go to opencv-3.1.0\opencv\build\x64\vc12\bin
Take the file opencv_world310.dll from there and copy it to the OpenToonz install directory (like C:\Program Files\OpenToonz 1.0)

The plugins will show after you restart the program.

thanks ^_^ i was trying to figure out the opencv part and all i could find was nonsense about recompiling, so glad to know it's just a one file thing.

I'm still confused, can anyone post a correct step-by-step for me? ^^;
I have Visual Studio C++ 2013, I need to install OpenCV?

Download the dwango_opentoonz_plugins zip file here: https://github.com/opentoonz/dwango_opentoonz_plugins

Extract the zip file and navigate to /bin/win/ and you'll find another zip file, extract that and drag all the files inside to C:\OpenToonz 1.0 stuff\plugins

Now download OpenCV from this link: http://opencv.org/

Don't install it, instead extract the contents of the executable using 7zip: http://www.7-zip.org/

Navigate to opencv\build\x64\vc12\bin and drag opencv_world310.dll to your OpenToonz installation folder for example C:\Program Files\OpenToonz 1.0\

Restart OpenToonz and it should work.

not really an install per se, you just need to pull the files that drago mentions above out of the ones in the opencv download.  the one he listed didn't work for me (there are 3 .dlls in it, the one for 64bit windows did work however, so i'd just recommend putting in all 3 to be safe.

I have a Mac, and I sincerely don't understand how to make this work. I tried and I tried, but there's obviously something that I'm doing wrong.
Could someone explain it to me?

So just to be perfectly clear, since there have been several links posted through out this discussion as what to download and what not. You need Opencv, extract files from said program. Where does Visual Studio enter the picture?
I can see the effect that Opencv had seeing as choosing an effect no longer crashes the program, but I still can't find my way to the plug ins. I have downloaded the plug-ins and placed them in the Plug-in folder. Oddly enough the folder seems to show up with nothing inside when I go into FX in the program itself.

OK, IN MAC
we need to use some of the underlying Unix wonder, don't get scared, terminals are our friend, just read and pay atention what it says ;)

I will start quoting Natalie:
Download the dwango_opentoonz_plugins zip file here: https://github.com/opentoonz/dwango_opentoonz_plugins
Extract the zip file and navigate to /bin/mac/ and you'll find another zip file, extract that and drag all the files inside to Macintosh HD ▸ Applications ▸ OpenToonz ▸ OpenToonz_1.0_stuff ▸ Plugins

Then open
Applications ▸ Utilities  ▸Terminal

Paste this line, hit enter, and enter password when prompted:
/usr/bin/ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"

THEN THIS LINE:

brew install homebrew/science/opencv3

then be patient, it will take some time to download, configure and install opencv3

I continue in a next reply...

IN THE MAC, Continued..

Sorry for breacking this in 2 posts, I wanted to reproduce it in another mac and be completely sure to write the commands properly.

THE LAST COMMAND:

brew ln opencv3 --force

E voila, restart the app and enjoy

What we did is basically to download the plugin files, put them in the right directories, install the homebrew package manager, and tell it to download compile and install opencv3.

Nevermind, I found what was the problem, I needed to unzip the file in C:\OpenToonz 1.0 stuff\plugins\dwango_opentoonz_plugins-master\bin\win

I seen some folks were having issues building the plugin directory, So I went a head and copied mine (which is working) and compiled it into zip file for everyone (For Windows Users). Just extract the file and drag and drop the files into the plugins folder.  Follow the instructions above regarding opencv and you should be good to go.  Hope this helps.

Hi JC,

Thank you for the file. I mean you have everything working in your computer and you decided to share it with us! :)

Well, for me it didn't work at the end. For every brush-effect my computer had a missing file (world310.dll). But @Natalie on this topic wrote the fix solution I was missing.

Thank you both!

However, they did not include the NeuralStyle DWANGO plugin somewhat... Any idea how to make it working? I tried the DWANGO Neural Synthesizer and works though.

Thanks for doing that JC.

I'd still like to know how this is done.
It seems there are still no clear instructions written in any obvious place.
The instructions miss a lot of important details that leave everyone lost.
Just a whole lotta bits and pieces of people trying to figure it out, then boom, "here's a fix"...somehow.
Well, it does work.  So again, thanks.
