Hi,

Although this thread may be off topic for the forum, I believe this forum is best to reach the IoT / Thread experts.

1) As per Thread 1.1 spec, Thread over BLE is left for the future implementation.
2) BLE Mesh over IPv6 is also based on 6LoWPAN [RFC 6282] alike Thread.

Where do you believe IoT industry will move in future? Do you foresee the two specifications getting unified?
Any estimates when Thread over BLE can be out for the public use?

Please provide your valuable suggestions / comments.

Thanks,
Shahab

Hi Shahabuddin,

We can't discuss features under development in future versions of Thread in the OpenThread forums.  Those discussions are reserved for members within the context of the Thread Group.

RFC 7668 which defines 6lo-btle links has some known limitations, including lack of support by phone operating systems, and scalability problems caused by the need to manually bond devices to each other O(N^2).  The BLE Mesh draft you cite is further challenged by trying to build a mesh using RFC 7668 links, which don't support multicast.
