Why monosacchride reducing sugars react fastly as compared to disacchride reducing sugar??

Hi Fatima:

Saurja will probably explain in more details but a quick solution can be found from the link below. The disaccharides are required to break down in monosaccharides first and then to aldehyde to show the reducing properties with various oxidizing reagents. This extra step makes them slower in reacting to various reagents like Molisch reagent.

I think ARnab has already given u the ans u need. But if you get a chance try to read Morrison and Boyd, I believe they ave a good chapter on sugars if I remember correctly.
