Call for Artist/Designer to create environment for online Climate Justice Event

The Climate Justice Network, a group of PhD researchers supported by CHASE, an AHRC funded Doctoral Training Partnership, is looking to recruit an artist or designer to layout a unique virtual environment on gather.town for a two-day multimedia sharing event. The event will bring to the fore those matters of care most urgent yet most neglected in the climate crisis and we would like that the design and its functions reflect that. It will host about 40 attendees (max. amount over the course of the day) and will involve a series of activities from discussions, video and artistic presentations, interactive workshops and socialising. The artist/designer will create a dynamic virtual environment in which groups and individuals can be in conversation with each other, display and post information, videos and notes. The platform will also be used post-event, to serve as an archive and display for elements from the event itself like presentation briefs, videos, snapshots etc.

Person specification

• Understanding of issues regarding Climate Justice
• Strong visual design skills
• Some experience of interactive map making or spatial design
• Experience of collaborative working
• Programming skills are not required

Deadlines

Deadline for proposal: 11am, Wednesday 10th March 2021

Interview day: Monday 15th March 2021 

Test drive a week before the event 14th April

Event taking place 22-23rd April

Fee: £690 (for estimated 3 days work)
Paid via the University of Sussex (some form-filling will be required)

Proposal structure: 

• 150-200 words description of proposed environment and your interest in this project. 
• Up to 5 sketches / visualisations (but 1 is also fine)
• CV / links to previous relevant work
• 50 word biography
