openssl download md5/sha1 different?

I downloaded the tar ball from the official site, the md5 and the sha1 files, then ran the downloaded tar through my installed php's md5 and sha1's functions, and got different hashes than those on the openssl page. I was expecting to get the same hashes. Is this an issue with the tarball or php? I'm on windows so I don't have a md5 on my console.
