GeoDa's spatial regression models are estimated using Maximum Likelihood, which require symmetric weights (i.e. you can't use KNN weights here).
To run a spatial estimator with asymmetric/KNN weights, you can use GeoDaSpace/PySAL sreg or R. Julia

Dear all,

I met a problem when I run spatial lag model (SLM) and spatial error model (SEM).
I use point shape file, and I can create continuity based  weights matrix also distance based  weights matrix.
But when I run SLM &SEM, I can't choose distance based  weights matrix as the spatial weights.
GeoDa always shows that "only symmetric can run the model.....", but I can use continuity based  weights matrix run SLM &SEM.
I don't know how to slove this problem.
Has anyone met the similar problem before? How can I solve this problem.
Thank you!!

Hi, Julia

I have downloaded GeoDaSpace from your link.
I would like to ask that when running SLM &SEM with asymmetric/KNN weights, is GMM method the only option I can choose? There is "Spatial Lag+Error" in GeoDaSpace, What is this?
Furthermore, it seems GeoDa can transform point shape file to polygons(as figure 1 I captured from a work book). I am using Geoda version 1.8.2 but the option isn't there (as figure 2). Is the function deprecated?

Thank you so much!
