Hey all! So, in order to build a group identity, a good place to start
is to come up with some sort of symbol. We need to come up with
something that says "Open Source Party". So, I have had one idea:

A pair of open hands holding a globe circumscribed with the binary
for: Liberty, Democracy, Transparency!

I would come up with some sort of graphical example to share, but I am
by no means the artistic type. Anyone?

How about a contest?

If we can get enough people to participate, that sounds like a good
idea.

Hey everybody,

I put this together from our discussion on logos the other day. Lemme know what you all think. The contest sounds like a good idea if there are enough people up to participate.

I have been slammed, so I haven't had a lot of time to go through the wiki/google group yet, but am planning on it this evening.

Enjoy,
Luke Mulks

I really like it.. the one question is, however, are we allowed to use
the broken circle? From a copyright standpoint?

Hate to be a party pooper, but I don't personally love this logo
draft... looks like a penguin who swallowed a magnet to me 8-D ...

I say let's keep brainstorming!!

The open hands holding a globe may be too cliche', but I think just a
globe with the three words

Liberty
Equality
Transparency

written across it (arranged in a column) could look great.... Of
course it would need to be carried out well graphically which I have
no capability to carry out....

A contest could work too ... though that would maybe sorta go against
the notion of having the website look semi-professional when we make
the publicity push...

May I humbly suggest that we first consider whether "Open Source
Party" is the best name for this project, before developing a logo?

I like the description you've got right now, but I think there's a bit
of a disconnect between that description and this name. The
description says it's an international net-roots campaign, and I think
that's a much more appropriate starting point than diving right in to
forming a party, which may or may not be the best strategy for moving
the campaign forward. I also suspect that the "Open Source" part of
the name immediately turns off anyone who isn't a hacker, which is of
course most people.

I'm pretty sure not. It's a registered trademark of the Open Source
Initiative. Trying to use the green keyhole and calling it "Open
Source International" is just ASKing for a demand letter.
