+= About the NPR SIMILE Timeline =
+
+== Introduction ==
+
+The [http://npr-simile-timeline.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/newsample.html
NPR SIMILE Timeline] (Beta) allows you to display a listing of NPR stories
on a timeline. This timeline, made entirely of open source technologies,
connects the [http://api.npr.org NPR API] to MIT's
[http://code.google.com/p/simile-widgets/ Simile Timeline] javascript
application. In addition to using this to display a timeline in your blog,
to link to a timeline, or to send a timeline in email, you are welcome to
become involved by
[http://code.google.com/p/npr-simile-timeline/issues/list suggesting
enhancements] to this application or to
[http://code.google.com/p/npr-simile-timeline/source/checkout repurpose the
code entirely] in your own applications.

+== Details ==

+ * View the

SIMILE Timeline] (Note: this script also allows you to create the necessary
code to put a timeline on your site)

+
+
+The [http://npr-simile-timeline.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/newsample.html
NPR SIMILE Timeline] is a set of files which connects the
[http://api.npr.org/ NPR API] to MIT's
[http://code.google.com/p/simile-widgets/ Simile Timeline] javascript
application. At the moment, the basic structure of this application
consists of a "portable query generator" to generate a query of the NPR API
and a "json parser" to incorporate the results of these queries into MIT's
timeline scripts. A side-goal of this project is to make the NPR Simile
Timeline as portable as possible, to make it something that is scripted in
the browser as much as possible. To make something that is as transparent
as possible which can serve as a nucleus for other mashups involving the
NPR API.
+
+This script owes an incredible amount to the NPR Digital Media team. You
can find out more about the NPR API [http://api.npr.org/ here]. You can
also read about what they're up to on their blog
[http://npr.org/blogs/inside Inside NPR].
+
+This also owes a great deal to the
[http://code.google.com/p/simile-widgets/ Simile Timeline] project. You can
read the documentation [http://simile.mit.edu/wiki/Timeline here], or ask a
question about the timeline widget
[http://groups.google.com/group/simile-widgets here].
